My quest to be a stay at home mom!
I'm starting this blog to document my journey to find the best deals, recipes and moneymakers out there to get me closer to my goal of being a stay at home mom.
First, let me tell you a little bit about me and my family and why I'm embarking on this journey. My husband and I got married in 2006 and promptly started our family. We welcomed Biggest Brother in January 2008, Little Brother came along in July of 2009, and Baby Sister, our newest addition, joined us in May 2011. With each child I had to go back to work 8 weeks after the birth and every time it got more difficult. I work 30 hours a week in a preschool setting, and love my job. The kids are lovable, my co workers are amazing and I'm good at what I do. That being said, I want more time and energy to spend with my own children during these short few years where they still think I'm beautiful, smart and fun!
Being a "stay at home mom" was never part of my original life plan, but these last 2 months home have made me realize how beneficial and important it is for my family to have more of my time and energy. Unfortunately, we live in Orange County, California...and this is where I want to stay. All of mine and Hubby's family live nearby and I'm not willing to leave the extra help (aka free babysitting and meals on occasion) or sacrifice the close and special relationship my kids have with their grandparents thanks to our close proximity.
So I'm scouring the Internet to find and test out different money saving and making opportunities and share the experience with you. Hopefully, I'll make you laugh and help you save or make money along the way too!
Do you guys have iPhones? We are switching to no-contract Android phones with Virgin Mobile for $25 a month. Eric has already switched, and I'll be changing over at the end of this month. That's going to save us a little over $1200 a year!
ReplyDeleteI am rootin' for you! I mostly stay out of grocery stores completely and buy my groceries from food co-ops (in bulk as much as possible), and cook EVERYTHING from scratch. Cloth diapers were also a big money saver, but also a BIG headache! Good Luck to you! O.C. is tough, but sounds like you have a good plan!
ReplyDeleteGen- yes we have iPhones and even though they cost an arm and a leg, I'm hooked. Its a splurge I want to keep, at least for myself-Micah is not as attached as I am.
ReplyDeleteAlmen- I've seen your posts about co ops and honestly had no idea what they entailed. I googled it and we have 2 options for monthly pick ups here in OC. I think I'm going to test one out this month! I'll be sure to post how it goes.
